Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
I don't want to say a failure, as that might appear too arrogant. We can dream of 'doing a Leicester' or securing a top 4 finish, which would still be huge, but should we be looking at a bare minimum top 6 now, and cementing ourselves as a top 6 club?

Our perceived competition outside of the 'big 4' is Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Leicester. Aside from Arsenal showing some form, which I fancy may not last, the others all have problems.

So for me, we have to be looking at top 6 minimum.

Thoughts?

Think Lingard will be Newcastle bound in January

If finishing 7th meant also winning the Europa, League cup or both, then I’d consider it.

ManU won't let Lingard go in January if we are above them. Even if it cost them a few million in the summer.

Good question and one that needs to be looked without claret n blue specs on. Over a season,Chelsea,Liverpool and City are a pace or two in front of us. Beyond those three we are well matched to the rest of the pack. Key players staying injury free is vital but a but of a big ask and as we know, our cover in certain positions isnt great. Saying that, other teams will be in the same boat in this regard. Confidence will play a part as well,we like all teams will have a dodgy run at some point and will be interesting to see how that affects the mood. Working on the basis that we have proved last season wasnt a one off then yes, finishing outside the too six will seem like a great oopurtunity missed.

Sign Lingaard and Berge early in January.

Top 6 would be guaranteed.

I also agree partially with Vexed but it is only really up front and central midfield where it would hurt. We have no direct replacement for Antonio but he is a bit of a one-off. Off the top of my head I can't think of a player we could get who plays quite like him. Noble and Kral are not as good as Rice and Soucek but I don't think there are many who are.

Re: Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
I'd like to see us at least grab top 6 but there is a lot of competition for that and very few points between the clubs. A win, draw or loss can really change the table. Dropping out of european competition risks our better players being tempted away so it's a must.

There is a lot more to come from this team as we haven't peaked yet.

Re: Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
We're still a couple of injuries from being pretty fucked.

Top six would be an excellent result given the number of games and the thin areas of our squad. Still unlikely imo.

We haven't earned the right to expect anything. Lets desist being entitled cunts like the Spurs and Leicester twats of this world.

Re: Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
Not taking injuries into consideration In reality Chelsea/City and Liverpool (bar yesterday's great performance) are better than us.

However for the peer group below us Arsenal, Spurs, Man U and Leicester are not. However Spurs will improve mark my words. Man U if they keep Ole are so inconsitent should finish below us.

So yes finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?

As it stands I’d be disappointed with anything less than Top 3 and Europa Winners

Re: Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
Two cup finals and an 8th place finish would be a ‘good season’?

Fucking hell, that’d be one of our greatest ever seasons.

Re: Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
Good question and I think answer depends on other things.

A cup final or two and say 8th would still be seen as a good season I think.

Also we’ve been very fortunate with injury situation, so if that were to hit us hard, we would have to reevaluate what success looks like. See Leicester for example.

That said, we have no reason to fear teams that will be around us. If Ole stays in a job we’re better than every team apart from probably Liverpool, City and Chelsea.

I’d take 7th and a place in the Conference League.

Just really hope we have a go in the cups and Europa League.

Re: Would finishing outside of the top 6 now be a big disappointment?
Not necessarily but it depends on the circumstances. At this stage let’s enjoy the ride.

We are capable of matching last season’s points haul and qualifying for European football as well. And remember there are three cup competitions for us to compete in with real chances too this season.

I think if you asked the same question to Spurs,Everton,Leicester fans maybe even Villa fans they would all say finishing outside the top 6 would be disappointing. I would be now and final in one of the cups now.
